rashes and fever and jelly...oh, my!

It has been a trying couple of weeks in the Vernon home. Connor has been sick before, but nothing like what we've experienced lately. It all started out with an upset tummy, which led to major diaper rash and then shifted to four days of fever that maxed out at 102 degrees. To say the least, he has had a really rough summer. Last night, while I was teaching a cycling class, my mom and sister had one of the worst scares...an allergic reaction to either peanut butter or grape jelly (he's had peanut butter before, so I think the culprit is the jelly) His entire face swelled up and he developed red bumps everywhere.

I know that there are many parents out there who have experienced their child being sick, or worse, really hurt or even more sick than Connor got, and it made me really think about how much having a child truly changes you. I have never been more worried for one person in my life than I was when he was sick (well, maybe more worried about Brian when he almost cut off his finger two years ago). And it also made me think about how lucky we truly are that he is a relatively happy, healthy little boy.

So, while my "summer vacation" four-weeks off didn't really go as planned (more time at the pool, park, and library), at least I was able to be home with my little one while he was going through all of this.

Where curiosity can lead

It's been a while since I've posted anything, so here's a quick update.

Connor had his nine month appointment last Friday.
He's a skinny kid...no baby fat and a six pack...
16 lbs. 7 oz.; 28" tall

The Little Vern:

  • crawls (mostly bear crawling)
  • pulls himself to a stand
  • stands for a few seconds without holding on to anything
  • takes one nap a day...we found if he napped more than that, he was up all the time at night. it's been a hard transition, but it seems to be working well
  • claps
  • enjoys the warm weather. He LOVES to be outside!
  • gets into EVERYTHING! Brian and I are working on creating a space where he can roam (almost) freely without hurting himself. For your viewing pleasure, here's an example...
